Perfect conditions at Fly Flatts early morn with a cold SW>3 at 13 degrees with full cloud and some rain showers. The sun started breaking through mid watch. Unfortunately the light wind is back to the east again tomorrow but coupled with the rain forecast it may prove ok.
Last nights torrential rain showers got the gulls moving and dropped me more waders in with a good count of Dunlin and Ringed Plover along with the usual Common Sandpipers, Redshank and Oystercatchers.
A couple of Curlew are still present along with a dwindling number of Lapwing whilst Swallows and Swifts were plentiful.
A busy sky for gulls today with a steady flow >SW of LBBs along with a small number of Herring and a few Black Headed.
Yes, I know I said I wouldnt be going to Ogden again for a while but inspired by the mornings gull movement and the recent gull report on NKs blog, plus the fact that mid afternoon was dull and showery, I risked it to do a gull check and see if it would produce an early Yellow Legged Herring.
Though the car park was reasonably busy the west bank was quiet so I could quietly check the few gulls present. Plenty of their favourite banking so should be decent as the month goes on. The gulls were mostly adult LBBs with a few 2 and 3 CYs along with 2 adult Herrings and 2 Black Headed, worth keeping a watch on from now.
Strange how a visit to Ogden, this time of year, produced a singing Willow Warbler in every tree
plus Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Garden Warbler but nothing heard or seen in my last 3 recent visits.
