Another day, another dabble. Fly Flatts/ Ogden.

FLY FLATTS                    A well grown Greylag gosling
This pair of Ringed Plover have been present since Feb 9th.

They have 1 chick but very elusive.

                                     Female getting very worn looking.
                                              Mega distant Short Eared Owl.
Something spooked these distant waders. 6 Redshank, 1 Curlew, 1 Dunlin.
OGDEN                                Only 6 LBBs present
This 3rd cycle LBB showing May/August wing moult

A decent morning at Fly Flatts, after overnight heavy rain and thick fog, with just a few light showers on a light SW>3 with broken cloud and some sun at 11 degrees.
Once again, down to the usual waders , though I think I,ve got spoilt with the daily usual species and wanting something different. Come October I,ll be begging to see anything when it gets bleak and quiet up there.
It was surprising to see how many Redshank were breeding in such a small area of moor when something unseen spooked them with 6 Redshank, 3 Dunlin, 5 Golden Plover plus several Lapwing and Curlew in the air together.
A steady flow of gulls headed >SW whilst 2 Stonechat were mobile on fence posts and a Short Eared Owl was hovering in the wind over the distant moor.
One hour at Ogden and a walk around the perimeter of the water was very disappointing and ended up as just a dog walk with next to nothing present other than the 2 Gt Crested Grebe, 6 LBB gulls out on the water briefly plus a single Heron.
