Even the most dedicated upland birders have to know when to pull the plug and today was it. With a near gale W>5 gusting 6, heavy horizontal drizzle, and some fog thrown in for good measure it was abandon ship. Tomorrow is showing severe gale force W>7 with more rain with Tuesday being the only day to be something like until the New Year. Just 3 very wet and blowy dog walks over Foxhill today with Common gulls still present on the football pitch, anchored down facing the wind, and even my feeders have been empty and no Waxwing takers down for the apples as yet, but hopefully when all the berries have gone they will start using the gardens.
Just a reminder of what can turn up when Fly Flatts produced 3 Pale Bellied Brent Geese this year for my bird of the year, and Leeshaw produced me a Great White Egret.
