Fly Flatts in the fog,(permit only)

More Dunlins but don,t Knock them, soon they,ll be gone.

                                                      SEO out over the water

                                            Several Reed Buntings present

Unusual for 2 BH gulls over this time of year

Dense fog this morning at Fly Flatts on a very light E>2 at 10 degrees then bright and sunny mid afternoon with some torrential rain showers.
No view over the water this morning but just enough visibility in the fog to check the near shorelines. Just the usual waders with 5 new in Wheatear along the banking.
A Cuckoo was very vocal in the lagoon tree and although I was stood within 30 yards of the tree I couldnt pick it out through the fog though the call was the loudest I,ve ever heard one with being so close to it. It eventually must have flown low over the moor and was heard calling from the usual area down in the valley by Dean Head.
Good visibility in the afternoon so I was able to do a wader count and a surprise to get a Short Eared Owl over the water, then away across the Flat Moor. A couple of Black Headed gulls nearly had me thinking Tern but not to be though Black Headeds are rare up here, especially this time of year.
