Wildfowl on the move Fly Flatts,(permit only)

                          13 welcome visitors, Wigeon.
Off in the drizzly skies >NW

                                                     8 Greylag was unusual.

  • As I was driving from Queensbury I could see the mist and clag to the east so I knew it would,nt be long before it hit Fly Flatts with an E>5 blowing at 9 degrees. Visibility was reasonable with light drizzle but by 0930 hrs the low cloud base had arrived with heavy drizzle showers. Visibility was kept across the water but patchy above. Late afternoon was sunny and clear.
  •                                                                 On arrival I could make out several ducks across near the far NW corner which looked wrong for Mallard and suspected Wigeon. A quick dash on the west bank got me within viewing distance to find 13 Wigeon along with 8 Greylag geese.
  •                                                             The Wigeon were very fidgety and obviously ready for moving so just time to get the tripod up and a few distant shots on the water before they were up and away >NW after flying a circuit of the water.
  • The Greylags settled down on the north shore along with a few Canadas. All sky movement was before 0930 hrs before the cloud base dropped whilst 3 Stonechat were present throughout by the track.
