- With nearly a week away from Fly Flatts I,d nearly forgotten how bad it could be up there , that was until I arrived late afternoon in very heavy rain throughout, driven horizontally on a moderate SW>5 at 12 degrees with a low cloud base cutting down visibility to just across the water.
- The water has risen considerably since my last visit with very little shoreline left, mainly at the north end, making it look as though thats probably more or less the end of the wader season at this site. I could have done with keeping some shore until the end of this month to pick up some returners but it looks like I,ll have to change tactics now going onto sky and water watching. This is a bit of a relief in a way as scoping large areas of shoreline like I have been doing over the last 12 months is a distraction for visible migration and watching the sky in general.
- With the near unworkable conditions this afternoon things were very quiet, the highlight being a single Cormorant just visible through the mist heading >W. Otherwise it was down to an adult and a juv Herring gull plus 4 Lesser Black Backed along with 3 Wheatear and 6 Meadow Pipits.
- Hopefully I,ll be getting some water fowl ,with ducks on the move. KM has just reported 2 Shoveler and 2 Pintail on Redcar Tarn, what is it about the small expanse of very disturbed water.? Plus the fact that its almost Pink Footed Goose time.
