A wader at last, Green Sandpiper, Fly Flatts,(permit only)

7 Pied Wagtails present ,all yarrellii

Length of the reservoir shots of Green Sandpiper.

Record shots but easily identifiable bird.

  • Still the cold E>4 blowing this morning but good visibility other than the glare of the sun on the water with a temp of 9 degrees.
  •                         Meadow Pipits trickled over throughout but no large flocks as yet and again another low count although I had to cut the watch short this morning with places to go.
  • A bit of a mix of species moving this morning including some water fowl.
  •                          Late afternoon and a decision to scramble along the east bank cobbles was a good move when a Green Sandpiper flushed from the cobbles showing its bright white rump as it flew to the NE corner. The bird was very flighty heading across to the north shore before disappearing around the corner at the NW end and out of sight.
  • I did,nt get chance to get anywhere near in range for photos, plus the heat distortion, with a temperature of 16 degrees but a nice autumn record for Fly Flatts.
  •                     An e mail from Nick Small reported large numbers of Stonechat with dozens moving through the Foreside Lane, Thornton Moor area north to south yesterday. Thanks for that Nick.
