Vis Mig watch, Fly Flatts(permit only)

                                      11 female Goosanders >SE

                       juv Pied Wagtail
  •    Thought I had a white here with very little light grey on flanks
  • but still showing some signs of moult pointing to Pied as Alba moult early July.

Very distant Short Eared Owl. 1st sighting here for 12 months.

                                          Possible moving bird.
                                           Fly Flatts early morn.
From the west bank. A full reservoir.

  • A cold, dull start to the morning at 9 degrees on a light NW>3 with hazy, milky skies to the west.
  • By late afternoon the wind had turned SW>4 and some light rain.
  •                                                Another decent vis mig morning but with a lower count of Mipits which did,nt start moving until 0915 hrs but were still trickling through late afternoon. A group of female Goosanders through were a bonus, a rare sight at this location whilst a Merlin swooped through the moving Swallows but failed to connect.
  •                                               The highlight of the afternoon was a distant Short Eared Owl quartering the moor, my first sighting here for just 12 months though this could be a moving bird.
  • Yesterdays Wheatears had gone through with just 2 present.
