Greenland Wheatear 'leucorhoa'
Primary projection ending in line with tail
Very rufous and buff underbelly
7-8 Primary tips as opposed to Northerns 5-6.
- A very wet and cold start to the morning with a W>5 driving drizzle across the water at 10 degrees with a brighter but showery afternoon.
- Plenty activity this morning with Swallows, Mipits, Mistle Thrush and Skylarks moving through whilst the water held Canada geese, Greylag, and Mallards.
- Just a small count of Wheatear today but a Greenland sp. stood out from the crowd being the bird of the day, but unfortunately only a single gull present.
- Many thanks to blog watcher Ashley for turning up a Wryneck yesterday in the Calderdale area and texting me with details, a very rare bird indeed in this area. Well done to DJS for his determination today going in search of the bird and being rewarded with re locating it though very elusive.
