For the love of gulls. Leeshaw.

                                   Early morn at Leeshaw

                                Gulls piling in.

Over 1000 gulls present, on the water
                                  and in the fields

                                Majority being Commons and Herring
Just a single ad Lesser Black Backed.

Another decent morning at Leeshaw with broken cloud and some sunshine on a moderate SW>3
at 3 degrees with good visibility.
Gulls were the outstanding feature this morning with a count in excess of 1000 gulls both on the water and in surrounding fields. Common and Herring outnumbered Black Headed whilst only a single adult Lesser Black Backed was present with possibly a few first winters.
Looking back at my 2021 records over 1000 gulls arrived this time last year and on the 22nd of December an adult Mediterranean was with them so hopefully history will repeat itself tomorrow, although this amount of gulls have to be in the right area to be able to scope through them with any confidence. I,m also hoping for Iceland gull but it was March this year when I got a 1st winter at this location.
Wildfowl was disappointing today with just 6 Mallard, 2 Canada, 1 Greylag and a pair of Goosander. Otherwise it was down to the usuals plus a flock of 26 Fieldfare flew overhead towards the plantation.
The winter solstice today so the daylight will be going 'tuther roard' shortly.
