Fly Flatts, pm visit.

                                  A glowing sunrise over Queensbury
                                Ice around the reservoir
                                  Below the west bank
A few Herring gulls over >NE

                                The boatyard
West bank looking over Fill Belly Flat.
Dark clouds coming from the north

With just over one hour to pass in Halifax at 0800 hrs this morning whilst the car was in for MOT I wandered around the Waxwing hot spots to check the berry situation checking Pellon Lane and Gibbet Street as far up as Queens Road where berries are very sparce and mostly already gone. The same has happened at Sainsburys and Matalan where there were masses of fruit but again appearing too early and most are now gone.
So far there is no influx of Waxwings with just a few reports around the country, mainly on the east coast with several in Flamborough village.
Mid afternoon and although I knew Fly Flatts would be birdless the brilliant weather was too good to miss so a quick trip up there.
The sky was blue with full sun on a brisk NW>3 at 0 degrees but not feeling cold in the sunshine. Good to walk the length of the west bank, even though , as expected, birds were few with just a small count of Herring gulls >NE plus 2 Stonechat near the seed in the compound and 2 Kestrels over the quarry.
Looking like another good day tomorrow with a clear minus 2 degrees evening up here in Queensbury though the daughter has just informed me that its snowing in Sowerby Bridge.
