Just when we thought it was over the hot, calm weather reared its ugly head again, putting the job on standby. Fly Flatts early a.m. was already at 15 degrees with clear blue skies and a very calm NE>2. By late afternoon it was near dead calm at 19 degrees with even the boats at a stand still on the water.
A walk along the length of the west bank and a scope around the shoreline just produced a family of 3 Grey Wagtails, which is unusual for here, plus 1 Wheatear and a BH gull on the water.
Back in the boatyard 3 Stonechat were in the usual area along with several Meadow Pipits and that was it.
In the afternoon I was geared up to visit Doe Park but getting back early from shopping I wrongly decided to give Fly Flatts another chance half expecting my annual August Greenshank any day now.
This turned out to be a bad move with again nothing at Fly Flatts and a shout from MP with an Osprey, yet again at Doe Park. A mad drive to Soil Hill and a dash to a good vantage point followed where I had a good aerial view of the water at Doe Park but 20 minutes scanning the skies just produced a very high Buzzard and plenty gulls heading for TMR.
Thats the second time in a week I,ve missed Osprey through the same circumstances . Guess where I,m going tomorrow afternoon.
