Still plenty Stonechat in the area, some may over - winter at Fly Flatts
Lots of blogging Meadow Pipits
Very few Canadas left now, most moved on.
A very grey morning with dark clouds and drizzle on a WSW>4 turning W>5 later in the day at 14 degrees.
A good start to the morning whilst driving along Cold Edge Road approaching the old Withins pub when a raptor type looking bird flew across the front of the car and over the wall. Thinking Sparrowhawk I anchored on just in time to see a juv Cuckoo on a fence post before flying around the back of the farm building not to be seen again. It could possibly hang around a few days as there are plenty nettle patches for it, their favourite habitat. A good spot for it is down the track towards Cold Edge where Black Redstart usually turn up.
Bang on time for juv Cuckoos to be passing through with the previous years Taylor Lane juv Cuckoos turning up at the end of August.
Otherwise it was a steady day with Stonechat and Wheatear whilst Swallows and Swift were moving through as well as a handful of LBB gulls.
