Single Dipper
Perfect conditions this morning with good visibility, 50% cloud and a light W>2 increasing to 4 at a cold 10 degrees.
After 2 hours searching and scoping at Fly Flatts this morning I came away with 5 common species and a poor photo of a Dipper. Unbelievably quiet with 5 Canadas on the water, 3 Swallows in the air, a single Wheatear and Dipper on the shore plus 1 Red Grouse on the moor.
At least in 2 weeks time there should be the first Pink Footed Geese over for something to look out for, my first skein last year was the 13th so I've put my Canon 70-200mm L zoom in at my bag at the ready.
The clearance of fog overnight seems to have moved on all the small passerines from yesterday with just the 1 Wheatear left and no Mipits.
Looking bright for tomorrow with a light north westerly.
Footnote... Just been informed that a couple walking their dog at Blackmoorfoot reservoir when the dog, on a lead, went into the edge of the long grass by the track and was bitten by an Adder. They went straight to the vets where the dog died shortly afterwards. The daughters cat is being treated at the vet for an Adder bite and they say some cows have died through Adder bites near where she lives at Pye Nest. Sounds like Adders are getting more numerous.
