Gulls battling the wind
Cormorant taking the full force
Swallows through
Way too windy and wet for Fly Flatts so back to Leeshaw where conditions were atrocious but exciting for reservoir watching to see the gulls battling against the near gale >W7 at 32 mph, gusting at gale force W>8 at 41 mph with torrential rain showers turning to heavy horizontal drizzle throughout at 10 degrees.
Black Headed and LBB gulls battled through into the wind along with 2 Herring whilst a good count of Swallows came through, also west, very low, skimming the water and fields. Several Meadow Pipits were grounded though several passed through, ground hopping, also west into the wind.
A high swell on the water with white horses as the waves pounded up the east banking with 3 Teal and a single Wigeon in among the Mallards but keeping to the NW end of the water. A single Cormorant was on the tower, not seeming fazed by the pounding it was getting from the wind and rain.
Despite the conditions there has a touch of vis mig taking place but far too windy and cloudy to pick up any Pinks on the move.
Another showery day tomorrow with the wind still strong from the west but slightly less than today. Visibility is showing as excellent but I dont think the forecasters have ever been to Fly Flatts.
