An overnight move of Wigeon brought 2 to Fly Flatts
As always, staying well out on the water
October Wheatears with 4 present.
Wigeon getting very fidgety by late afternoon
- A foggy start at Fly Flatts with heavy mist hanging over the water and western moor with bright blue skies to the east. The fog soon cleared leaving a bright morning but the low cloud remaining over the western ridge. A moderate W>4 was blowing but mild at 8 degrees.
- As I started to walk on the south bank 2 Wigeon flew in from the south and landed on the north end of the water. A dash along the west bank, whilst counting fly overs at the same time, got me just in range of the 2 Wigeon which were well out in the centre of the water as usual.
- The ducks remained throughout the day but were starting to look ready for moving by tea time.
- My first small flock of Redwings of the autumn flew NW but reports say that thousands of Fieldfare and Redwings are heading our way in the next few days, weather permitting.
- Just when I though I,d missed any Siskins this season a small tight flock flew over with a Coal Tit on their tail.
- October Wheatears were present and as I drove up the track on the way out another hugging ,or the same, Stonechats lined the wire fencing with at least 15 present.
