Leeshaw, Raggalds Flood, Fly Flatts.

                                     Squadrons of Starlings over Leeshaw

Unusual to get Mallards high and >W

Raggalds Flood back in action temporarily with 5 Teal a.m.

Raggalds Flood p.m. with a Curlew present

                                                   as well as Herring gull
                                    Common gull
                                         Lapwings etc.
                                    Pink legs unfortunately.
Still 2 Wheatear present at Fly Flatts.

  • More morning fog and heavy rain at Fly Flatts whilst Leeshaw had light drizzle for a short period with clear skies and good visibility at 8 degrees.
  • A good move again dropping down to Leeshaw with a very active morning throughout but still a shortfall of Pink Footed geese and Whoopers.
  •                         Mipits were moving in better numbers and larger groups, the best being 34 birds whilst Starlings and Redwings were building up. Unusual to see Mallards moving >W very high and fast with still a good count on the water.
  •                         A Ring Ouzel very high and nearly in the cloud headed >N, this being my first autumn sighting after an amazing spring at Fly Flatts with birds present most of March but the same story last autumn with just a couple of fly overs.
  •                        A stop off at Raggalds Flood on the way home to check the water, after a night of torrential downpours, found 5 Teal along with the Mallards and several small gulls.
  • A second check mid afternoon, after a text from JL reporting a large wader, found a single Curlew, along with the 5 Teal,a Herring gull plus small gulls and Lapwings. What an amazing piece of water this is for attracting the birds.
  •                       Late afternoon was pleasant with bright skies on a NW>4 but quiet skies and water with just 2 Wheatear and 3 Stonechat present.
  • The water is now up to the overflow with all shoreline gone and water lashing over the banking in places. The lagoon in like an extension to the reservoir and well in flood with a day of rain forecast for tomorrow.
