Fly Flatts, plenty water, very few birds.

  •           Black Redstart showing p.m. in dark skies.
  •           Probably 1st autumn or even adult male with pale grey autumn plumage, before moult.
  •          Showing white wing patches.

  •                                          Another poor morning at Fly Flatts with a foggy start followed by a low cloud base giving visibility across the water and just periods of brighter sky showing through.
  • Feeling cold at 6 degrees plus the wind chill factor from a moderate E>5.
  •                                       Very little on the move, or at least not that I could see but the highlight being a small tight flock of Coal Tits fast and low over the water >S. Otherwise it was down to LBB gulls, Starlings and Woodpigs moving whilst 3 Stonechat and a single Wheatear were present.
  •             With boats on the water and limited time late afternoon I checked out the Causeway Foot Col from the Ned Hill track watch point which found empty skies and the only birds showing were 3 Grey Partridge flushed by quad and trial bikes on Soil Hill.
  •             A stop off at the Black Redstart site found the bird showing periodically but longer times between sightings. Good to bump into Keith Moir and his good lady doing the rounds and luckily as he arrived the Black Red appeared and put a bit of a show on, perching on the roof top and fence as well as a spot of fly catching.
