Leeshaw, Fly Flatts, Raggalds Flood.

LEESHAW      Unusual time for displaying Dippers
3 out of 4 birds together

                                                LBB gull,  pink legged.
                                             Heron with its breakfast.
Whilst the LBB and Heron argued Crows came down for a fish snack.
                                     Very few big gulls
                                              1 of 9 LBBs.

FLY FLATTS      1 of 2 distant Stonechats
2 fighting Peregrines. The lower bird had jesses.
The falconer was stood down the northern track.
The birds were over the Nab.

  • Getting below the mist of Fly Flatts once more,Leeshaw was pleasant after overnight and early morning rain. The skies were clear with sunny patches on a W>3 at 7 degrees.
  • Fly Flatts late afternoon was sunshine and heavy showers, some being hail , on a moderate W>5.
  •                  A much quieter vis mig morning than yesterday with very little movement other than the local birds. The sky looked ideal for Pinks and Whoopers but nothing happened on that scene.
  • Talking to BV up there it sounds like most of the Pinks have already arrived on the east and west coast probably flying down the coastline ,as many of the Mipits seem to have done yet again this year. Looks like are next big Pinks movement will be the trans Pennine birds later in the year.
  •           Whoopers are now being reported from vis mig sites so hopefully some will pass our way over the next few days.
  • A good find of 4 Dippers together squabbling and 3 of the birds displaying, which seems a strange time of year.
  •           Fly Flatts late afternoon was mega windy and heavy showers with a few sunny spells in between but keeping it very quiet throughout. The highlight was 2 battling Peregrine high above the Nab and one of the birds could be seen to be wearing jesses. I later picked out a falconer down the north track with the bird relocated on his arm.
  •           A quick look at Raggalds Flood on passing mid afternoon found already the water was well receding with the Teal gone leaving just small gulls, Lapwings and Mallards along with 2 Herring gull and a single Wheatear up on the wood pile.
