An active day at the reservoir. Fly Flatts.

Goosanders, a rare visitor at this site.

Biggest skein of Pinks so far this season 145 >SE

                              Canon 7d with 70-200mm lens
                                      Canon 7d mk2 with 600mm lens.

  • On arrival at Fly Flatts this morning the fog was thick on a W>4 at 8 degrees then suddenly by 0830 hrs it cleared away like smoke leaving blue skies and sunshine with just low fog patches over the western ridge.
  •                                     The start of the morning was grim making me think I was wasting my time, when 30 minutes later I was firing away with 2 cameras at a decent sized skein of Pinkies coming over from the west heading >SE. After that it was action all the way with no big counts but a nice variety of species and something to watch throughout.
  •                                   My first 2 Fieldfares came over trailing behind 9 Redwing whilst a GBB gull headed >W.  Merlin. Peregrine and Kestrel were active over the moor disappearing in and out of the fog patches.
  •                          The late afternoon visit found a surprise with 3 Goosander on the water before heading off high and >SW, a very rare visitor to this stretch of water.
