Above the clouds, Slaughter Gap
The Withins
Dense fog lower down
Greylag goslings doing well
4 pair with young now.
Plenty Common Sandpipers
Single LBB gull
Dense fog in the valleys this morning with Fly Flatts up above the clouds with just a slight haze but good visibility on a light SW>2, which was just enough to clear the midges, at 8 degrees.
A steady away morning with enough to keep the interest going but no newcomers. A single Dunlin was on the partially exposed peninsular as well as 3 Redshank whilst Common Sandpipers were everywhere but only 2 Ringed Plover found.
No Wheatear present today but plenty Mipits along with a male Pied Wagtail, all spooked by a Peregrine going over at speed but showing no interest in the area.
A good count now of both Canada and Greylag goslings on and around the water along with a drake Tufted duck. Just a single LBB gull and 8 Herrings >SE.
This afternoons dog walk took me up Ringby which was pleasant enough and several more birds than the Ned Hill track with Linnets, Goldfinch, Skylarks and a single Wheatear, plus the usual corvids
and a few Herring gull overhead. No Whitethroat in the usual spot and no Greenfinch down on the feeders.
Greenfinch around this area are now getting very scarce and the lady who fills the feeders say they are seldom seen whereas once they were very common. I only had two sightings last year and they were in Wibsey Park and Wainstalls.
Decent for morning with a light westerly, dry, and good visibility forecast.
