Star Prize for Redcar Tarn.

                                Plenty Tufted present
Star of the show, drake Pintail.

                                    Plenty Herring gulls

                                Small count of LBBs

This bird stood out as a smaller, slimmer gull with white
underbelly and white head with long bill but streaking on head and
                 a bright iris.

A better day with a light NW>2 at 5 degrees with full cloud cover but good visibility.
A busy agenda for this morning so no birding session but a check of Redcar Tarn, after a shopping trip to Keighley, proved a good move with a drake Pintail in with the Mallards. Apparently this bird has been visiting the Tarn since early December but a surprise to see it today, a very rare duck for this region.
Nothing unusual stood out from the gulls, apart from the one above, with plenty Herrings, Commons and Black Headed but only a low count of LBBs.
Otherwise all the usual Tufteds, Coots, Canadas, Greylags, Mallards etc along with a couple of Pied Wagtails. Lynda was in the car so did,nt get time to go and check the Brambling hotspot.
Weather looking passable again tomorrow as long as the fog stays away.
