An icy cold morning with a real biting NW>4 at minus 3 degrees but clear blue skies and sunshine. An eye watering morning but ideal for walking on the tops. What we call ' a lazy wind', goes through you instead of round you.
Again, as yesterday, a good gull morning though only about half of yesterdays numbers with around 200 small gulls, 8 Herring and a single LBB. Very hard to scope through today with the stronger wind coming from the NW, so all the gulls on the water were facing away from me.
Around 150 Greylags were in the field before dropping onto the water briefly then away to there daily feeding fields whilst only 10 Canadas were present.
Still waiting for winter ducks with just the usual Mallards present as well as a distant pair of Teal under the edge of the reeds at the north end.
A Buzzard and a Barn Owl were over the moor top, but, as with everything else this morning, too distant for photos.
On the way home around 50 small gulls were in the Dog and Gun field which is encouraging as this field produced Yellow Legged Herring and Caspian last year.
Again, no Pinks on the move and looking bad this winter with none of the massive skeins of 300 + which we are used to getting over in previous winters.
Slightly warmer in the morning at 1 degree but forecast snow, though the farmer at Oxenhope says its going to be to the east and west of us, according to the farming forecast.?
