Fly Flatts a.m./ Horton Bank Top p.m.

Horton Bank Top            1 of 12 Herring gull
                                    Single Mute Swan
                                    Herrings

                                    Single Heron

                                    Lesser Black Backed

1st winter Moorhen, ad at rear.

An icy cold morning at Fly Flatts with a temperature of minus 1 degree and a light covering of snow on a ENE>3 with 50% cloud and some sun. Luckily the below zero temperature kept the thick fog clouds low over the western ridge of the moor. A cold and cloudy afternoon.
Fly Flatts is always quiet till mid February apart from the odd surprise but this morning produced next to nothing with a few Canadas and Mallard as well as 2 Raven, Fieldfares and BH gulls.
To try to make amends I did a quick mid afternoon check on Horton Bank Top which was much livelier though nothing special.
A dozen Herring gull, 2 LBB gull and several Black Headed and Common were present along with several Coot, Moorhen, and Mallard.
A single Heron was half hidden below the banking whilst just one of the usual Mute Swan pair was present with no sign of its mate.
Very few small passerine with just Blue and Great Tit and the usual Robins and Blackbirds.
Looking like a similar cold day tomorrow but a stronger NE wind turning E.
