Ogden a.m.

                                    1 of 15 Redpoll

                                    3 Goldcrest present

                                    Gold crowned ' Goldpoll'
                                        1 of 2 Treecreepers
                                            Charm of 15 Goldfinch

Ogden was very misty and wet at first light on a light NE>3 at 3 degrees and full cloud cover.
Avoiding the thick fog on the tops I set off for Leeshaw, which was below the cloud base. Annoyingly, as I dropped down into Oxenhope the road was still closed meaning a long diversion to get to Leeshaw so that is why I ended up at Ogden.
A lot of activity with small passerines it the waterside trees but a lower count of Lesser Redpolls with just 9 showing, one of which was a, so named, Goldpoll with a gold crown instead of the usual red. This is said to be caused by either genetic or dietary with a mutation causing the colour change, said to be usually found in older females. A fairly rare sighting though I have had a few in the past.
Just a couple of Siskin present as well as 3 Goldcrest, 2 Treecreepers and 15 Goldfinch, plus the usual Robins, Wrens, Dunnocks and Blackbirds. A Nuthatch and Long Tailed Tits were on the feeders.
Around 40 small gulls were on the water as well as the Mallards and the female Goosander, we must be due a Goldeneye at some point in the near future.
By 0930 hrs Chris was on his quadbike bringing Christmas trees along the west bank so game over and return to base.
Same forecast for tomorrow with a degree warmer but still looking like more fog.
