Greylags on the west bank
The usual foggy start at Fly Flatts with fog slowly clearing to low cloud then finally clearing by 0930 hrs. A moderate SW>4 at a cool 10 degrees and light drizzle.
A small group of 5 grey geese on the west bank got the adrenalin going, thinking of White Fronted due to the position on the west bank where I never get Greylags, which is unfortunately what they turned to be.
The Stonechat group were up to at least 8 but very mobile around the area whilst a Pied and a Grey Wagtail were in the compound with 2 Kestrel and a Buzzard over the Nab.
A single drake Tufted dropped onto the water at the north end with more Greylags and a few Canadas.
A photographic disaster when the 600mm lens gave up the ghost with the auto focus packing in and the only other lens I had with me was a Sigma 28 to 70mm zoom which is only good for landscapes and portraits etc but luckily there was nothing special turned up to use it on.
I have a 70 to 200mm Canon and a 300mm fixed Canon to fall back on but neither is up to the job of the distant photos at Fly Flatts. If the 600mm is a fortune to repair, which I expect it will be, it will be my third 600mm scrapped.
A very calm, cloudy day forecast for tomorrow on a light SE turning E so no doubt I,ll be back in the fog in the morning.
