Another Mega for Fly Flatts.

                                Short lived sunrise, Queensbury
                                Very distant drake Pintail
                                     LH duck

                                    Peering through the fog

                                    Fog closing in.

A bright sunny start to the morning with overnight fog quickly clearing off the tops due to the wind turning >S. By 0830hrs it was back to full cloud on a S>3 at 10 degrees and becoming very dark.
By 0930 hrs the light wind swung around to the SE immediately bringing in dense fog and drizzle.
As the clouds started rolling in a scan over the water produced a duck species low and fast over the north end of the water before landing near the NW corner. Expecting Wigeon , a quick dash through the compound with the scope gave me a surprise with a drake Pintail.
Two Teal were also way out on the water as well as10 Mallards and a few Canadas. My time was taken up trying to get to grips with the Pintail so little else seen. The bird was still present as the fog came down.
On the way home several large flocks of Redwing were heading >SW over Bradshaw.
Looking grim for tomorrow with gale force winds and heavy rain.
A check on the RNLI lifeboat stations this afternoon on their live web cams at Whitby, Redcar and Filey found the weather there just as bad with heavy rain and fog out to sea although it was good to watch 2 Red Throated Divers and 6 Turnstones feeding in Whitby harbour at low tide. I switched onto Whitby last night just at the right time to see the Whitby lifeboat and inshore rescue boat launch.
