Fly Flatts(permit only), Thornton Moor (B.O.G. members only.)

TMR                                2 pair Goldeneye present.

                                               Several Lapwing

Mega distant Short Eared Owl over 'The Bumps'

Big gulls heading into the water
                                                                 Herrings.

Another dark and wet morning but at least the fog had been moved on with the wind turning from the east to NW>3. Light rain throughout at 3 degrees.
Very little to get excited about this morning but not scoping weather and a wet walk on the west bank. The Ringed Plover pair were still present at distance on the east bank whilst 4 Curlew were in the top fields along with a few Meadow Pipits.
No fly overs today in the low cloud so otherwise just down to the usual Canada geese and Mallards.
Also out on the tops in the grim weather was hardy birder Carolyn about a mile to the east of me walking near the wind turbines who reported a group of 16 Curlew coming from the north, over Thornton, then Soil Hill heading for Ogden, probably the Slaughter Gap area. Thanks for that Carolyn.
Mid afternoon and a visit to Thornton Moor in dull but dry conditions where 2 pair of Goldeneye were on the water along with Canadas and Mallard. A flock of around 80 Lapwing were mobile before settling on the Shay fields below Soil Hill whilst several Curlews called from the fields to the east of Long Causeway.
At last, a Short Eared Owl sighting but right out on the camera limit beyond the Nab into Fly Flatts area working its way along The Bumps. Around 60 Herring gulls on the water as well as 2 LBB and about 50 small gulls. Otherwise , just a few Red Legged Partridge and the usual species.
