Fly Flatts a.m. (permit only) Thornton Moor p.m. (BOG Members only)

FLY FLATTS                        Male Ringed Plover

                                         Female Ringed Plover

                                              Curlew on the west bank.

                                                More Herrings on the move
TMR  RESERVOIR                Herrings and Lesser Black Backed

                                       Drake Goldeneye taking off

                                                 2 of 5 present.
                                           Crawling with Curlew.
                                         A minimum of 58 counted.
                                           Curlews on Windy Corner.

1 of 3 Oystercatchers in with Curlews

                                               Amazing sight and sound.
                                           On by the hide.
                                          Goosanders heading off to roost.

An icy cold but pleasant morning at Fly Flatts at minus 1 lifting to 2 degrees on a light SE>2. Good local and overhead visibility but hazy to the west.
Just a re run of  my previous visit with just the , now usual, species. The Ringed Plover pair were near the waters edge along with 2 Oystercatchers and 5 Curlew.
Otherwise down to Canadas and Mallard, Raven and Corvids.
A visit to TMR mid afternoon to see if anything in the way of Swans and Gulls were going up the Aire Valley but that much action around the reservoir that I,d very little time for sky watching.
The whole area was buzzing with Curlew with a count of at least 58 present and several more in distant fields. An amazing sight and sound as large flocks flew overhead and several landing on the reservoir walls. We used to get sights such as this years ago when Curlews gathered here to roost.
Goldeneye and Goosander were on the water as well as LBB and Herring gull plus a few small gulls but the winter gull roost seems to have broken up now.
Sad to see one of the massive Conifers that we planted 30 years ago uprooted and blown over in the recent gales.
                    A real entertaining birding session.
