Dense fog on the tops this morning with Leeshaw reservoir just below the cloud base but very dark and misty and light rain on a calm E>2.
The mid afternoon conditions at Fly Flatts were better with the wind turned SE>3 and heavy rain showers but reasonable visibility.
With all the shore now under water at Leeshaw reservoir the only waders found were the Redshanks and Oystercatchers as well as Curlew, Lapwing and several Snipe up drumming.
A disappointment for this site with only 4 LBB gulls >S and a single BH gull on the banking whilst a Cuckoo was calling from the moor.
An Oystercatcher is sitting eggs and there are several Lapwing chicks in the fields. A very low count of Greylag and Canada geese.
The conditions looks good for Fly Flatts with a chance of movers in the heavy rain but it failed to do me a good 'Tern' !
Just the usual suspects there with Common Sandpipers, Redshank, Oystercatcher and the pair of Ringed Plover wader wise. A male Reed Bunting was by the lagoon whilst 3 LBB gulls headed >NE. No Wheatear today and no Goldies present either at Fly Flatts or Nolstar.
Good to see another couple of birders up there with DJS scoping from the top road and Sailing club member / birder Alan who I got him onto his target bird Ringed Plover with the usual pair on the east bank. Also a good turn out of boats today which seem to cause no disturbance to the birds.
Another weather front over tomorrow with rain on a SE>3 so as long as the fog holds off its back on Tern watch, well you,ve got to be optimistic !!
