Late afternoon at Fly Flatts was very wet and windy with a low cloud base making visibility poor in the mist and fog patches. The moderate wind was SE>4 at 8 degrees.
Couldnt get to Fly Flatts today until late afternoon in atrotious conditions but looking good for Terns coming through which never happened, even the gulls failed to materialize. The rain was so heavy and blowing horizontal it even penetrated my waterproofs.
Despite the conditions, birds were active all around the waters edge with a new batch of Common Sandpipers arrived as well as a cracking female Greenland Wheatear. A real bruiser of a bird standing very upright with a full rufous breast and belly and very dark plain wings and upper parts.
Unfortunately it was very flighty in the heavy rain and soon disappeared along the south shore ,not to be relocated so no photos. Hopefully it will still be around tomorrow but no sign of the male Greenland today but possibly just keeping out of the weather.
A good look around all the edges of the water just found the usual waders and no target birds, (Turnstone and Sanderling.)
