More Dunlin arrive at Fly Flatts.

                                                       2 Barnacles present daily.
Pair of Ringed Plovers into their 10th week now.

Common Sandpipers are always very active

                                                  Scoping from the compound.

Gulls building up on the water a.m.
                                              Only 3 Wheatear present

A still, cool day with  a light NE>3 at 4 degrees with 80% cloud cover and broken sunshine.
More Dunlins had arrived overnight but kept well to the north end of the east bank and well out of photographic range. By late afternoon they were difficult to scope in the quivering heat distortion but at least 2 of the 4 were still present.
I don,t know whats going on with the pair of Ringed Plovers which have been present for 10 weeks now. After a couple of weeks they looked like they were going to breed and went through all the motions but the area they were looking at is right by the track so constantly disturbed so now they seem to have lost interest and just spend all their time together eating or sleeping. This is possibly the same pair that bred successfully last year raising 2 young when the water was drained.
No shortage of Common Sandpipers at the moment with Redshank and Oystercatcher also present. Next target waders are Greenshank, Turnstone and Sanderling.
Plenty gulls present this morning but all gone by afternoon whilst Swallows are becoming a common sight now skimming the water and heading >N .
On the way home a male Ring Ouzel flew low across the front of the car heading towards the wind farm. It flew from the track that goes down to Cold Edge opposite the old Withins pub.
