No chance of launching boats here. The new floating
jetty is on the left of the picture.
East banking to the vertical fence.
Looking along the east bank
South shore
Across to the west bank valve tower.
1500 hrs at a gale battered Fly Flatts with light drizzle blasted across the water on a powerful W>8
gale force wind powering across at a this years record of 39.4 m.p.h. making the anemometer whistle and nearly seize up in my hand.
Idea conditions for a maritime species to arrive but this never happened. No work going on today with the workers confined to their vans as too dangerous to work, or even walk, on the west bank so I had to make do with scoping from the east bank where at least it was blowing me away from the water instead of towards it.
A single Dunlin was elusive below the vertical fence finding shelter in the ponds but otherwise no Mallard or Teal present.
Big gulls were the birds of the day with a steady flow of Herrings and Lesser Black Backed all >SW
whilst a trickle of Meadow Pipits battled >S undeterred by the wind.
The usual Kestrels were up over the Nab making use of the wind whilst a single Raven showed briefly above the quarry.
A calmer day with rain tomorrow so its a matter now of checking to see what the winds blown in.
