Up hovering for several minutes
Their hovering skills put the Kestrels to shame.
Watch those blades
Pintail still settled.
1445 hrs in mainly sunny conditions with a mild W>5. Once again I was confined to the east bank whilst work is going on along the west bank. Ironically the Pintail spent the duration close to the shore directly below my west bank watch point with the sun full on it whilst unfortunately I was way across the opposite side with the sun and wind in my face. After satisfying myself that there were no waders present I took to sky watching where 3 Buzzards were up hovering over Skirden Head and the Knoll area before all heading off >E.
At one point there were 3 Buzzards and 6 Kestrel all in the air hovering and hanging in the wind.
Mallard numbers were up to 41 along with 15 Teal all sticking to the north end of the water.
And then it all went pear shaped. Back at the car I stood the tripod up with the camera on whilst I had one last scan through the bins when suddenly a rabbit shot past with Ollie shooting off in pursuit. Through the tripod legs he went with his lead whipping the legs from under it and the whole shebang crashed to the deck.
Luckily for Big Bertha 2 she landed on top but unlucky for my Canon 7d Mk2 that landed flat on its back with the full weight of Bertha on top of it.
I picked it up and everything looked ok, that was until I switched it on and instead of seeing bird photos on the screen I saw pretty colours and squiggly lines , another camera bites the dust. They just dont build cameras for birders.
Looks like I,ll have to dust the cobwebs off and go back to the Canon 7d Mk 1 for now. At least I managed to get tonights photos off the the camera.
