Bad start to September. Fly Flatts

The 12 young tufted have grown into fine birds.
All but 2 left Fly Flatts now
Nearly had this down for a Scaup but a trick of the light.

A poor session today spoilt with the weather with 40% cloud cover , hot sunshine at 21 deg on a light SW>3, definitely not bird moving material.
Again no waders present with just 4 LBBs and 8 BHGs on the shoreline to the east along with 5 Teal and the usual Mallards. All 12 Tufted were surprisingly reared successfully with the 2 females and 10 young moved on leaving 2 behind although they have all been moving between Cold Edge Dams and Fly Flatts over the last few days.
The fall of Mipits from yesterday, along with the Chats have also moved on, possibly due to raptor presence with a female Merlin, 4 Kestrel, juv Peregrine  and a distant Buzzard all in the area today.
The valve is still open on the reservoir with water gushing down the conduit letting the level drop even lower with mud even showing on the west bank now below the cobbles. At least the sailors managed to get some boats out on the water today with difficulty having to drag them over the beach on trailers.
Another hot day tomorrow unfortunately but with a stronger S>4 which moving birds like to fly into to prevent wing damage so may even get an early Osprey heading south.
