This young Common Sandpiper knows it has to spend its time
feeding to get its body weight up ready for its long flight
to Africa in the next few weeks
Fly Flatts 1515 hrs spending the first part of the watch in perfect conditions being able to look up and see grey instead of blue with a 80 % cloud cover on a light ENE>4 but mid way through, the clouds broke letting the sun through and the wind drop.
Very little difference today with the usual species plus 8 Black Headed gulls on the water and 7 Herrings through mega high and >NE.
The target bird this week is Wheatear on their return journey south with the juvs through starting this week. Last year my first return recorded was a single juv on the 3rd and 10 present by the 13th so I,m expecting a sighting in the next few days although reports were poor as very few were seen heading >N in the spring.
Just a few LBB gulls in the Raggalds field whilst a Heron flew east over Bradshaw.
