Lapwings moving in to the islands
6 Kestrel present
Another 3 Curlew >NE
High up in the heat shimmer
7 LBBs present
Tufted chicks
Mother duck
32 BHGs inc 3 juvs.
Yet another sunny 24 deg job with bright blue skies but a WNW>3 to compensate for the heat.
Each visit now shows a glimmer of things to come with another 3 moving Curlew over >NE high up and calling whilst 2 Sand Martins flew low over the water then off in migration mode >SW, my first of the year.
Gull wise, 7 Lesser Black Backed were on the east shore whilst 32 Black headed were present. Lapwings are starting to be attracted to the islands with 6 present meanwhile overhead 6 Kestrel were near together over the west banking and moor.
The female Mallard with 4 chicks was avoiding the LBBs whilst a surprise of a female Tufted with 8 chicks was on the water. This bird has,nt bred at this site so I can only think its done the same as the Greylags and walked the chicks up from Cold Edge Dams where there were 2 families present last weekend.
Very hard searching for small waders now with so much shoreline and so many islands to check so it means hugging a heavy scope around with me as well as the rest of the gear but hopefully it will be worth it.
Yet again, terrible conditions for distant photos with so much heat tremor but hopefully the sun will go out before the waders arrive.
Prediction..... A wheatear before the end of the weekend.
