A gull to look out for this month and Fly Flatts.

A gull to look out for in July , this being the most popular month for sightings, is the Yellow Legged Herring gull (  Larus michahellis ). Adult and sub adult birds can usually be easily recognized from the Herring and Lesser Black Backed but the juv and 1st year birds are one for the experts.
These are some distant iffy photos of  some of my last 2 years of  Yellow Legged Herring Gull.

Adult in moult with some primaries missing.

                                                  3rd summer

Fly Flatts tonight was hot and sticky with broken cloud allowing the sun to raise its ugly head with a very light SE>2 so a rather uncomfortable and quiet visit.
Just 9 Black Headeds on the water and nothing in the air whilst the bankings held the usual Common Sandpipers, 1 Lapwing and several Mipits bathing in the edge of the water.
Wheatears are looking like arriving late as they did in the springtime but I,m still expecting one by the end of the weekend.
If anyone is looking for a Fridge Freezer, bed, wardrobe and a set of drawers someone has kindly donated the above items by dumping them outside the Fly Flatts top gate.
