A change of plan got me back to Fly Flatts.

              Greylag goose family are back
Amazing that these young Canadas are the little yellow
bumblies I took a few weeks back.

                   Theres always a late brood
Sheep are having to come off the moor to drink at the reservoir.
                                    LBB left,  Herring right

Need to get a closer look at this very pale grey Herring
but its always on the east bank
Its the juv scraggy necked Common Sandpiper again

3rd species of gull present BHG.

Reed Bunting that would,nt come from behind the grasses,

Some nice grey cloud mid afternoon, and where was I, waiting for the carpet man to come so by the time he had finished and I,d got all the furniture back it was 1600 hrs. A quick check of Ogden was the plan even though the little voice in my head said, you,ll only get wound up , but I headed there all the same.
As soon as I turned into Ogden Lane, chaos, cars everywhere with a wagon blocking the lane doing repairs so a quick turn around and 15 minutes later I was where I belong, Fly Flatts.
By this time the sun was full blast again but a pleasing W>4 got rid of any heat worries although the skies remained quiet as always in these conditions.
Just the usual Common Sands and a single distant Dunlin whilst it was good to see the safe return of the Greylag family that took the long walk to Cold Edge Dams and are now back on the water , the young ones looking as is they could possibly be flying by now.
Around 400 Canadas including well grown young whilst singles of 3 species of gull were present, LBB. BHG and the Herring gull thats been around a few days which I could do with a better look at though it always keeps to the far shore or waters edge and with the heat shimmer its impossible to get a good photo of it. It stands out as 2 CY but is a very pale grey odd looking bird?
Three large grass fires on the way back with the hillside ablaze above Mixenden up above Whitegate in 2 places and a large fire somewhere over Illingworth way, seems to be the latest nugget craze.
Apologies for the boring blogs but I warned you June into July would be quiet, even the Calderdale blog has dried up, but not to be disheartened, the biggy is just weeks away.
