A pleasant morning at Fly Flatts but an icy cold SE>3 at 2 degrees with frozen ponds and frost. Luckily the low temperatures kept the mist down in the Aire Valley leaving good visibility on the tops. Looking like a poor spring for waders with both Fly Flatts and Leeshaw reservoirs full and overflowing with very limited shore and already some Lapwing nests have been washed out in the lower fields.
A lively morning with a count of 12 late Curlews moving through >W, possibly non breeders, whilst Herring and LBB gulls are starting to arrive on egg watch, which is good for me but not for the nesters. There are also more Crows and Magpies around this year.
At least 9 Wheatear were below the west bank along with 2 Pied Wagtail, 1 Grey Wagtail and several Meadow Pipits. Another 2 male Ringed Plover have arrived making 4 male and 2 female aolong with 2 Redshank and 2 Oystercatchers.
A Peregrine, Raven and Buzzard were scope-able over Tatty Pie Hill, with just Mallard, Greylag and Canadas on the water.
