A good day for Swallows
and Meadow Pipits on the move
1 of 4 Denholme Buzzards.
up in the heat shimmer.
Another misty start to the morning at Fly Flatts then clearing to the north and west but staying with very poor visibility to the south and south east. A very light SE>3 at 15 degrees.
Meadow Pipits and Swallows ruled the morning with a few other species on the move but the count limited by the claggy skies.
Swallows and Mipits piled through with several more Mipits blogging around the shoreline. A good count of Jackdaws high and >SE was unusual whilst 8 Wheatear were across on the Robin Rock, nothing near the amazing count of 240 Wheatear counted on Winter Hill, Manchester during their vis mig watch.
Another hour at Denholme p.m. failed to see the Osprey although it was seen during the morning and up to 1300 hrs and then returned late afternoon around 1630 hrs.
To the north of the water 4 Buzzard were up together as well as 2 Sparrowhawks with one of the Buzzards coming over the water, flushing all the Canadas, before heading back towards Harden Moor.
Good to bump into 2 more Haworth birders looking for the Osprey, Caroline and Tim who eventually got their bird after I had left . Sharon, the other young lady Haworth birder also returned late afternoon to see it again after she had been watching it in the morning also. A day of girl power today.
