Another Caspian for Fly Flatts and more fog walking.(no public access)

 Wednesdays Caspian confirmed today.

                                              3rd from left, 2cy
                                            centre
3rd from left, believed to be the Redcar Tarn bird.

Original uncropped image, 8th from left.

  • My second Caspian gull for Fly Flatts and a second for Calderdale I believe. This bird is a 2cy whereas my last sighting 16/10/ 2017 was a first winter flyover. This bird was present on Wednesday 12th Aug, no wonder they call it the glorious 12th, and confirmed by MC and KM.
  • Keith believes that this is the bird he has been watching recently at Redcar Tarn. There were also at least 2 juv YL Herring gulls present which are near impossible to tell even at close range. Many thanks again for their unbelievable gull knowledge.
  • FLY FLATTS Today
  • Another morning of thick fog luckily clearing by late afternoon but still a slight mist. A moderate NE>4 was blowing bringing drizzle from the east at 16 degrees.
  • As yesterday, a walk on the east bank in the morning found several grounded Mipits and Wheatears but no chance of checking much shoreline with the fog cutting visibility well down.
  •                                                            Late afternoon and the fog cleared leaving a slight mist and strong NE>5. A Curlew was on the north shore briefly whilst a Common Sandpiper flew past me below the west bank. The north shore just held a few gulls including a Yellow Legged Herring which is 1 of 3 making daily appearances.
  • Hopefully we,ll get a fog less day tomorrow.

  •                                       As good as it got this morning

A small variety of gulls this afternoon
Wrong position on the west bank with wind from the east

The white head stood out on this gull but will go for LBB
