Fly Flatts p.m.

A calm cloudy afternoon with a slight breeze from the SE and a few light showers.
After the last events up there it was a quiet afternoon but with Shelduck Monday and Sanderling Tuesday I suppose I should,nt get greedy.
When I say quiet I mean nothing new happening, not quiet like the winter months where I can have several visits without a bird.
A full and thorough scope around bankings failed to find the Sanderling and although there is several hidden areas with lots of nooks and crannies in the mud the Sanderling stood out easily through the scope this morning, mainly due to it being still in near full winter plumage. Plenty time for more Sanderling yet as I get a visit every year spring and autumn and on 19/5/2011
NCD had 5 together up there.
Dunlins were everywhere with 12 at the south end and several scattered along the north and east shore. AC had a count of 21 this morning beating my record count of 16 in June last year which had some Alpina , Scandinavian sp among them. I havent had chance to sift through this years yet as they are still unsettled and very flighty.
Its the same story with Common Sandpipers with around 20 present now along with 6 Redshank and 2 Oystercatchers.
I could do with a few of the old favourites that seem to have gone now ,like Little Stint and Curlew Sandpiper. Also last year I was disappointed not to get a Black or Barwit or as Andy mentioned this morning, Yellow Wagtail, that would be a real blast from the past.
