Over 200 big gulls this p.m.
Nearly all the Herrings are first year birds.
As near as it got to DJSs Red Kite up in the mist.
A pleasing morning at Fly Flatts with light grey 90% cloud cover on a very light NW>2 but by late afternoon it had turned to W>3 but very dark clouds over, turning everything to silhouette and making it look very dark and poor visibility.
A very busy morning session with good counts of the , now common, waders with nothing unusual but good to get the first Grey Wagtail of the year up there.
A Merlin gave 2 quick fly pasts whilst a Raven was busy dodging 3 mobbing Curlew.
A call from DJS got my head out of the scope when he reported watching a Red Kite in my area as he viewed it from Ogden as it flew over the Withens and Slade areas. The bird suddenly came into view over the skyline but immediately dropped back down and out of view as the Lapwings were up in force sending it back towards Cold Edge. Thanks for the call Dave.
The afternoon session was very quiet with just the usual species plus gull numbers were up to over 200 lining the whole of the east bank.
The Canadas and Greylags with young are sticking to the fields to the east and the boatyard area hardly daring to take their young out onto the water.
