Golden Plover giving distant display
2 groups, 117 in total.
Unfortunately always between me and the sun
Skies full of gold.
Fly Flatts p.m. with the inconsiderate wind still blasting from the SW but slightly less than this morning and remaining dry with 50 % cloud cover and sunshine.
After a period of 1 hour walking the bank and checking the sky, water and moor I got back to the car with an empty camera with nothing in sight other than a few Canadas and Mallard but within the next 30 minutes sky watching I had 130 images in the camera.
I was luck enough to experience a blast off of Golden Plover from the flat moor giving some spectacular aerial displays lasting around 45 minutes before they dropped back onto the moor. Unfortunately they kept a distance away and were silhouetted keeping in an area between me and the low sun but a pleasing experience all the same.
Just 3 Lapwing were up with them whilst 8 Stock Doves flew low over the water in groups of 3, 2 and 3 all heading >SW, a rare bird for this area.
