Above the clouds, Fly Flatts

1st Redshank back at Fly Flatts

A very confusing morning weather-wise with dense fog banks moving around, some above, some below so a hard decision where to head for. Started to head towards Leeshaw but a break in the cloud gave me visibility of the turbines at Fly Flatt so a quick change of direction.
After driving through several thick fog banks on route I arrived at Fly Flatts to find clear blue skies and wall to wall sunshine on a light SE>3 at 7 degrees. A slight haze hung over the moor.
Very spring like this morning with Curlews, Lapwings and geese all very vocal whilst a noisy Redshank was the first to arrive back at this site.
Two more first of the year were a single Snipe, high over the Flat Moor, and a tight group of  5 Golden Plover which came in from the SE dropping down onto the Flat Moor.
Just the one Herring gull >NE whilst Meadow Pipit numbers are creeping up along with 2 Pied Wagtail.
A group of 9 Greylag were on the water with 100+ Canadas whilst a steady flow of Woodpigeons was apparent overhead, very high and all >SW. Just the 1 Red Grouse showing, a rare species up there these last 3 years.
A good forecast for tomorrow with sunshine starting off at 6 degrees but a light ENE so it all depends where the fog ends up.
