A hardy little bird, Stonechat.
Like being in the Antarctic this morning at Fly Flatts with and icy cold SE>4 at minus 1 degree but feeling colder given the wind factor. Near full cloud cover with a few small patches of blue sky but the sun never managing to break through.
Much quieter than yesterday with very little in the sky or on the water with just 12 Canadas and 8 Mallard whilst 6 Black Headed and a single Common gull went overhead along with one Raven.
A Stonechat was moving around the boatyard as well as 2 Reed Bunting and an adult male Pied Wagtail. A pair of Buzzard were interacting well out over western ridge beyond Tatty Pie Hill with 5 Red Grouse on the Flat Moor, other than that, down to the usual species.
A quick check on Mixenden reservoir on the way home revealed around 50 Black Headed gull as well as 10 Common and 5 Herring with a Buzzard over Hunter Hill.
A couple of Lapwing were on the cobbled bank as well as a Cormorant and female Goosander on the water along with 4 Mallard. A Dunnock and 2 Mistle Thrush were on the edge of the plantation.
A good mixture for tomorrow with snow, ice, rain and fog on a light easterly. Roll on Thursday when we get rid of these dreaded easterlies and a rise in temperature.
