Nice visitor for Fly Flatts, Common Scoter.

                                1of 3 Common Sandpiper

                                    Dipper over the water

                                    Drake Common Scoter
                                    Flying a circuit
Very distant and against sun angle

Another good weather morning at Fly Flatts with near full cloud cover and light rain showers on a WSW>3 at 13 degrees.
First scan of the water produced a drake Common Scoter way across in the NE corner, about the worst spot it could be in. A trek along the west bank got me opposite the bird but still the full width of the reservoir away and looking into the bright cloud. Two mountain bikers went down the public footpath flushing the bird which did a circuit of the water then back to its original position.
Whilst I was on there the, now resident, Dipper flew over the water and briefly showed itself a couple of times after that near the South shore.
Three Common Sandpipers were again present but very mobile with a good choice of shore for them with the water still receding, thanks to the valve remaining open. Hopefully next weeks rain won't do too much damage to the shore.
Otherwise it was down to a single Raven and Kestrel and the usual species, with a clear out of Mipits and Wheatears until the next wave arrives.
Another day of sunshine and cloud tomorrow on a moderate westerly reaching near gale force by midday. Sailing day tomorrow so a change of venue will be in place.
