Full autumn plumage
Peninsular showing well
Muddy shore, NW corner
Exposed shore, SE corner
Dark clouds from the west
Bit of sun on the Nab.
A decent morning weather wise with a moderate W>4 with 90% dark cloud and some sun. Remaining dry with good visibility at 13 degrees.
A bad start to the morning finding the road at Hebble Brook still closed, even though it should have re-opened yesterday. A 2 mile diversion on narrow grid locked roads did'nt start me off in the best frame of mind but on arrival at Fly Flatts and seeing good expanses of exposed shore as well as the peninsular above water, it made me feel better.
Amazing that a this time of year, plus the low water level, the only wader present was a single Common Sandpiper. A check on the compound and lagoon bushes, which are usually heaving with small migrants at this time of year, produced a few Meadow Pipits, along with 4 Wheatear nearby on the shore. A walk onto the east bank peninsular, which is usually good for Sanderling, even produced nothing
A Kestrel, Buzzard and 3 LBB gulls were in the air and that was it.
A light SE in the morning with some cloud before the heat arrives p.m.
The Mill Lane road at Hebble Brook Mixenden is now scheduled to re-open next Friday, 16th Aug.
