My easiest twitch ever. Juv Med gull.

Stonking juv Med gull. 10yds Lane. Thornton.

Found by Mark Pearson early morn.

OGDEN                        1 of 4 Common gull

                                    West bank
2 juv Gt Crested Grebe present

A light SE>2 at 15 degrees and clear visibility.
Fortunately I was a bit later setting off this morning as at 0721hrs a text from MP reporting a juv Mediterranean gull was at his patch of 10yds lane, Thornton. At 0800hrs I was arriving at the field with disappointment as only 2 gulls were present. To my amazement one gull was a Black Headed and the other the target bird, juv Med gull. I pulled up by the field and shot a pile of photos off, not believing my luck as to how easy I had got the bird as its usually a case of scoping through hundreds of gulls.
The gull ended up as the only gull in the field until another Black Headed dropped in and the Med gull flew, just as I was going to get the dogs out for a walk. Luckily it did a circuit and back to the same field but nearer to the farm.
This is the second Med gull Mark has found in as many weeks, his last one being an adult which I dipped on.
With some time left to spare I headed reluctantly to Ogden which is not a good idea on a sunny Sunday morning as well as school holidays.
A circuit round the water found around 50 LBB gulls, mainly juvs, 4 Common , 2 Herring and several Black Headed. Also on the water were 2 juv Gt Crested Grebe. All was quiet in the waterside trees with not a warbler in sight.
By 0915hrs cars and people were piling in making it look like Wakes weekend on Blackpool promenade so time to go. A walk down Taylor Lane on the way home produced nothing other than the expected.
Many thanks to MP for the shout on the much needed Med gull, a species that has been rare this last winter.
Another warm one tomorrow with a light south east and a warning of thunderstorms.
